Kolkata, Feb 8: Hyderabad FC and Chennaiyin FC recorded convincing victories in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25, with both sides strengthening their respective campaigns.
At the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium, Hyderabad FC defeated Mohammedan SC 3-1, marking their fourth win of the season and moving to 16 points.
Allan Paulista opened the scoring in the 24th minute, capitalizing on a long through ball from Muhammed Rafi. Just before halftime, Ramhlunchhunga doubled the lead with a stunning free-kick from the edge of the box.
Mohammedan SC’s Alexis Gomez remained a constant threat but found little success against Hyderabad’s organized defence. Gomez eventually assisted Makhan Chothe for a goal in the 78th minute, sparking brief hopes of a comeback. However, Hyderabad sealed the win in stoppage time when Paulista set up Joseph Sunny, who fired in the third to secure all three points.Meanwhile, at Kolkata’s Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Chennaiyin FC snapped a seven-game winless streak by defeating East Bengal FC 3-0. The Marina Machans took an early lead in the 13th minute when an error by Nishu Kumar led to an own goal. Wilmar Jordan Gil doubled the advantage in the 21st minute, finishing off a cross from Irfan Yadwad.
East Bengal attempted to fight back but lacked the finishing touch, with Vishnu Puthiya and Saul Crespo missing key opportunities. Chennaiyin sealed the victory in added time through Daniel Chima Chukwu, who capitalized on a fast break to slot in the third.
With these results, Hyderabad FC continue their pursuit of a European spot, while Chennaiyin FC keep their playoff hopes alive, climbing to 10th place with 21 points, just seven behind sixth-placed Bengaluru FC. (Agencies)
