Pope appoints Auxiliary Bishop of Shillong Archdiocese

SHILLONG, Feb 9: Rev Bernard Laloo, the Chancellor and Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah has been appointed as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Shillong.
Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh informed on Saturday that Rev Leopoldo Girelli, the Apostolic Nuncio to India, has communicated to him about the appointment made by Pope Francis and announced in Rome at 4.30 pm (IST) on Saturday.
Fr. Laloo was born on June 16, 1976 at Laitlyngkot, Meghalaya, and was ordained a priest on April 30, 2006, for the Archdioceses of Shillong. He served the Archdiocese as Assistant of St. Paul’s Church, Upper Shillong (2006-2007), Administrator of Christ the King College, Shillong (2008), Dean of Studies at St. Paul’s Seminary, Shillong (2009-2015), Principal of Divine Saviour Higher Secondary School, Laitumkhrah (2015-2016), Director of Social Service Centre, Shillong (2017-2021), and board member of Caritas India (2021-2024).
From 2022 onward, he has been serving as Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Shillong and as Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians
Fr. Laloo was also a former member of the Farmers’ Commission, as well as of the State Tuberculosis Co-morbidity Coordination Committee. He has a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s in Sociology, besides a postgraduate diploma in Counselling Psychology.
