SHILLONG, Feb 10: With an crowd of over 26,000 expected to attend global sensation Ed Sheeran’s concert at JN Stadium on February 12, authorities are implementing strict security and traffic measures to ensure a smooth experience for the concertgoers.
The concert will have only two entry gates, both opening at 4 pm. Officials have urged ticket holders to arrive early to avoid congestion. The opening performance is set to begin at 6:15 pm.
To manage the large turnout, roads leading to JN Stadium will be closed from 3 pm. Vehicles will not be allowed in key areas, including Lumjingshai Junction, Lawmali Junction, Golf Link Tri-Junction, City Hut Dhaba Junction, and several others. Traffic diversions have been planned to direct vehicles towards alternative routes such as Lumjingshai/Jingthangbriew, Mawroh Tri-Junction, Oakland Road, and Don Bosco Square.
Designated parking areas have been arranged at Red Fielding opposite the cultural tree, roadside spots around Golf Link, and the State Convention Centre campus. Separate parking zones have been allotted for VIPs, pass holders, and the public.
A three-tier security system will be in place at the venue, including visual inspections, electronic verification, and a final security check. Only mobile phones, keys, and wallets will be permitted inside. Plastic water bottles are prohibited, but free water stations will be available inside the venue.
Additionally, children below the age of five will not be allowed to attend the concert. Parents have been advised to make necessary arrangements before arriving at the venue.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah said that there is the need for cooperation from attendees, urging them to follow instructions to ensure smooth entry.
“We have a multi-channel ingress system with eight designated entry routes to distribute the crowd evenly,” she said.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem assured that security personnel, disaster management teams, and medical units would be stationed at entry points and inside the stadium to handle any emergencies.
