Sensitisation on BIS standards at Tura event

TURA, Feb 11: A sensitisation programme on Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) was held at DRDA Conference Hall here on Tuesday for various departments and institutions in West Garo Hills as per the decision taken during the 2nd Meghalaya State-level Committee meeting.
Addressing the sensitisation programme, Scientist C, BIS, Guwahati, Ashutosh Rai, highlighted the objectives and working module of BIS. He explained that the BIS is the national standards body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, which formulates the standards and specific guidelines for products to ensure quality, safety and consumer protection through standardisation, certification and awareness initiative.
Informing that BIS publishes standards on various products such as cement, pavers block, helmets, etc, Rai said that the government departments can procure BIS certified goods for their respective departments.
Meanwhile, Jishnu Das, SPO, BIS informed the gathering about the introduction to BIS activities and promoting quality and standardisation Awareness in Educational Institutions.
Joint Director of Foof Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Tura, NM Marak and others also spoke during the programme.
