MAWKYRWAT, Feb 12: In what may be a twist to the contest in Langrin constituency in the upcoming polls, NPP candidate Mandilost Nongbri has claimed the backing of seasoned politician and five-time Ranikor MLA MM Danggo.
Interestingly, Danggo had recently accompanied Congress candidate from Langrin, Pherdonnam Rngaid, during the filing of nomination for the upcoming MDC election and declared that he and all his supporters will support the Congress candidate in the MDC election.
The NPP candidate from Langrin told media persons that before going to the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s residence in Shillong to join the NPP, all the leaders and supporters of Danggo assembled at Nongbri’s house. He said that almost all supporters of Danggo, especially from the border areas of Ranikor, have joined the NPP.
It may also be mentioned that many supporters and leaders of Danggo on Wednesday joined the NPP at the CM’s house.
Boost for UDP
Meanwhile, the UDP Mawkyrwat Circle received a shot in the arm on Wednesday as hundreds of leaders and supporters from different parties including TMC, HSPDP, Congress and NPP joined the party to support UDP candidate Jeslanroy Nongsiej in the upcoming MDC election.
Working president of the UDP Central Body and Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton L Tongkhar welcomed the newcomers to the UDP Mawkyrrwat Circle in the presence of the president of UDP Mawkyrwat Circle, Shainkor Nongsiej, MDC candidate Jeslanroy Nongsiej among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Tongkhar expressed confidence that with the joining of the leaders and supporters from rival parties, Nongsiej will secure victory in this election and the UDP will surely create history as the first party to ever win both MLA and MDC elections in Mawkyrwat constituency.
Tongkhar also exuded in UDP to lead the Executive Committee in the KHADC.
Meanwhile, Jeslanroy Nongsiej promised that if the people of Mawkyrwat choose him as their MDC, he will closely work with the local MLA to ensure development in the constituency.
