JOWAI, Feb 12: UDP candidate Damian War addressed a gathering in Mokoiram Village, West Jaintia Hills, where a group of Karbi individuals attempted to disrupt an election meeting recently. He reminded the residents of Mokoiram of the importance of unity and determination in overcoming challenges and safeguarding their borders.
The village, located along the Meghalaya-Assam border, became the centre of a jurisdictional dispute as the group, claiming to be from Karbi Anglong, opposed the meeting, arguing that the area falls within West Karbi Anglong’s territory.
Despite their objections, War and his supporters asserted that the meeting had every right to proceed, dismissing the opposition’s claims as baseless and an attempt to create unnecessary disruptions.
In his address, War reaffirmed his long-standing commitment to the region, highlighting his efforts to protect the local community and preserve the environment, particularly in border areas. He assured his supporters that he would continue working for the welfare of the people, including those who did not support him.
