KHLIEHRIAT, Feb 14: The District Magistrate East Jaintia Hills prohibited bullfights or animal fights within the entire district following reports of rampant holding of full fights or animal fights during fetes and other festivals in the district, an official statement stated.
According to the district magistrate, rampant holding of animal fights, if allowed, will violate Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and it also violates the ruling of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in 2014 in its judgement against bullfighting.
The order comes into force with immediate effect until further orders and any violation of the order shall be strictly dealt with as per legal provisions, the district magistrate said.
