Shillong, Feb 14: The result of the by-election of office bearers and Councillor to the Apex Council of the Meghalaya Cricket Association was announced on Thursday after scrutiny of the applications of all three candidates who filed nomination for the three vacant posts were declared valid.
W Khyllep, IAS (Retd), former Chief Electoral Officer, Government of Meghalaya and Electoral Officer of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, officially declared the results, wherein all the three candidates, who filed nomination within the specified date, were declared elected unopposed for the remaining period of the 2022-2025 term.
Certificates of election were also handed over to the winning candidates by Shri Khyllep.
On the other hand, Rayonald Kharkamni, outgoing MCA Vice-President, was elected as Honorary Secretary, while Sengnab Momin, outgoing Member (Councillor), was elected as Vice-President.
The by-election became necessary as the outgoing Honorary Secretary, Gideon Kharkongor, expressed his desire during the last AGM of the MCA to be relieved from the post due to the increasing workload of his professional career.
However, he will continue to render assistance to the MCA as he was elected to the vacant post of Member (Councillor).
Earlier, the general body of the MCA had authorised the Apex Council to decide on the issue and, after recommendation of candidates, the SGM held on 1 February ratified the decisions taken therein and the by-elections were notified by the Electoral Officer for the three vacant posts, as provided in the relevant clause of Memorandum of Association & Rules and Regulations of Meghalaya Cricket Association.
