SHILLONG, Feb 24: The High Court of Meghalaya has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing repair work on National Highway (NH-6) between Jowai and Ratacherra, although it identified a few remaining issues that need to be addressed immediately.
After reviewing the report submitted by lawyer representing the deceased petitioner, Kynjaimon Amse, the court noted that while progress has been satisfactory, some problems persist. These include large potholes and exposed rods from small bridges, which, though not considered major, still require urgent attention to ensure the safety of commuters.
Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, IP Mukerji, and Judge Justice W Diengdoh, after hearing submissions from Additional Advocate General (AAG) for the state and S Sengupta, the counsel for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), expressed optimism that the full 102.225 km stretch of NH-6 will be fully operational and obstruction-free within a reasonable timeframe.
The next hearing of the Public Interest Litigation has been scheduled for April 16, 2025, and both the state and NHAI have been instructed to file a status report by then.
