GUWAHATI, Feb 25: More than 50 students of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) have successfully cleared the UGC-NET exams held in December last year. However, the catch in this development is that the university will reimburse the entire course fee to these NET-qualified students as a reward for their outstanding achievement under its unique Pay Back Policy.
In this regard, Vice Chancellor of USTM, Prof GD Sharma, said, “USTM remains committed to empowering students by expanding our coaching programmes, ensuring they not only succeed in national competitive exams but also emerge as leaders in their respective fields. We offer financial incentives to encourage and motivate students, reinforcing our belief that no deserving student should be deprived of higher education due to financial constraints.”
He further highlighted that USTM’s coaching initiatives also incorporate soft skills training, interview workshops, and motivational seminars to prepare students holistically for their academic and professional journeys.
Director of USTM’s University NET Forum, Dr Trishna Thakuria, said, “To inspire students to qualify for NET, GATE, SLET, IAS, and other high-level competitive exams, USTM offers financial incentives through its Pay Back Policy. Our NET Forum conducts regular coaching sessions every day after 4:30 pm to help students prepare extensively for the UGC-NET exams.”
As part of its outreach mission, USTM also provides free coaching for NET, SLET, GATE, Banking, Staff Selection Commission (SSC), and other government competitive exams through its Centre for Competitive Examination. The NET Forum, an integral part of this centre, has been successfully guiding students since 2017.
