JOWAI, March 4: A court in Jowai has convicted one Shwamiki Law for the murder of his wife, Daphibanker Phawa, sentencing him to life imprisonment.
The case dates back to October 11, 2018, when the accused’s father filed an FIR at Jowai Police Station, stating that around 11:50 pm, his son entered his bedroom with a neck injury, unable to speak, and gesturing that something had gone wrong in his residence. Upon rushing to his son’s house on the first floor, the informant made a horrifying discovery — his daughter-in-law had been brutally murdered, her throat slit by an unknown assailant.
Following the complaint, the case was registered under Jowai PS Case No. 231(10)18 U/S 307/302 IPC and investigated by WPSI I. Kharpran.
After the trial, the District and Sessions Court, Jowai, which was presided over by NA Khan, sentenced Shwamiki Law to life imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 5,000. Additionally, the court recommended a compensation of Rs 6 lakh for the three children of the deceased mother.
