Guwahati, March 5: The University School of Law and Research (USLR), under the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), successfully conducted an awareness outreach program on Cybercrime and Digital Fraud at Ri Bhoi College, Nongpoh on Monday, 3rd March.

Themed “Protect Yourself Online, Be Cyber Smart,” the program aimed to educate students and faculty about the growing threats in the digital world and equip them with the necessary knowledge to stay safe online.

The event began with a welcome address by Ms. Joplimon Lamurong, Assistant Professor, USLR, USTM, who set the tone for the program by highlighting the importance of cyber awareness in today’s digital age.

This was followed by a brief speech from Dr. Elizabeth Kharkongor, Principal of Ri Bhoi College, who appreciated the initiative and emphasized the relevance of such awareness programs for students.

The highlight of the program was a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation delivered by the students of B.A. L.L.B (H) 10th Semester and L.L.B (H) 6th Semester from USLR. The presentation covered various types of cybercrime, including deepfake technology, phishing scams, identity theft, and financial fraud, while also elaborating on preventive measures and the provisions under the IT Act 2000. The session stressed the importance of vigilance and adopting safe online practices to protect personal and financial information in the digital space.

In addition to the presentation, the students performed an engaging skit that portrayed real-life scenarios of digital fraud, vividly illustrating the consequences of cybercrime and the role of law enforcement in tackling online threats. The creative and informative performance struck a chord with the audience, making complex concepts more accessible and relatable.
