SHILLONG, March 6: The NorthEast United Football Club (NEUFC) is all set to open up a residential football academy in Shillong, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in the Assembly on Thursday.
This comes after the CM announced that the state government will spend close to Rs 1,900 crore in the next three years on sports and for hosting the 39th National Games in 2027 while presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2025-2026 on Wednesday. He said that access to sports infrastructure would be the largest component of the Rs 1,900-crore investment.
“Today we are having large investments in the sports sector. I am happy to inform that North East United FC will be setting up one of the best residential football academies here in Shillong,” the chief minister said.
The NEUFC is a professional football club based in Guwahati, Assam, that competes in the Indian Super League (ISL), the top flight of Indian football. The club was founded on April 13, 2014, during the inaugural season of ISL.
