SHILLONG, March 7: The report that NEHU Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla was planning to physically resume his duties has been proven false.
Members of the NEHUSU and KSU NEHU unit locked all entrance gates and the main entrance of the administrative block on Thursday to prevent Prof Shukla from entering the university campus. They continued to man gate number 2 until midnight in case Shukla tried to enter.
NEHUSU general secretary, Toniho Kharsati, stated that the VC never planned to physically assume charge.
He expressed sadness over the false information being spread and the situation happening during students’ semester examinations.
NEHUSU president, Sandy Sohtun, questioned the reasons why the committee’s findings have not been shared with students.
He suspected that the VC is doing these actions in connivance with the Ministry to create confusion. Sohtun also questioned why the Ministry has not informed or sought the views of students on the action needed to be taken against the VC.
