SHILLONG, March 10: UDP MLA from Amlarem and former cabinet minister, Lahkmen Rymbui has recommended launch of the metro train service in New Shillong Township (NST).
Rymbui stated that the government should draft a plan to build a metro line linking NEIGRIHMS, Mawpdang, and the New Secretariat to guarantee that NST would not experience Shillong-like traffic congestion in the future.
He praised the government’s proposal to invest about Rs 400 crore in the NST across all sectors, but added that government colleges, and government schools for both boys and girls must be established in NST.
He expressed his happiness at the government’s decision to provide road connectivity from Mawlyngngad to the NEIGRIHMS side, saying it will significantly contribute to the development of NST as a modern metropolis.
Talking about the government’s lack of funding for the international border, Rymbui remarked, “I am pleased that the CM promises to approach the Government of India regarding the distribution of funds along the international border.”
He says it would be fantastic if money could be allocated for the international border from any government programme.
Additionally, he stated that the Manners and Lynthong clans had donated about 35 acres of land to the Forest department that is currently lying unutilized.
According to Rymbui, this land has historical significance and should be developed by bringing the Tourism and Forest departments together. This land is more beautiful than Thangkharang Park in Sohra, he added.
