SHILLONG, March 19: An interactive meeting between members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and Elena from Tufts University, Boston, USA, was held at the Meghalaya Assembly Building (Administrative Block), Khyndailad.
The session was a follow-up to the training programme attended by Meghalaya’s legislators and officials at Tufts University in October 2024, aiming to build upon the insights gained during their visit.
The discussions revolved around strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving accessibility to medical services, particularly in Meghalaya’s rural and remote areas.
Elena shared global best practices and innovative strategies for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and modern technology into public health interventions, aiming to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
The legislators explored various policy approaches to address critical healthcare concerns, including immunization, maternal and child health, nutrition, and disease prevention.
A key highlight of the discussion was the role of AI-driven predictive analytics in early disease detection and outbreak prevention. The integration of AI-assisted telemedicine was also proposed as a viable solution to improve healthcare outreach in Meghalaya’s far-flung areas.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira, along with prominent legislators Charles Pyngrope, Wailadmiki Shylla, Methodius Dkhar, and Gabriel Wahlang.
Also in attendance were Additional Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Malthus Sangma, Director of the Meghalaya Institute of Governance Aiban Swer, and Sandra Albert, Director of the Indian Institute of Public Health, among other officials and policy experts.
