MAWKYRWAT, March 21: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Mawthawpdah Area Unit has expressed disappointment over the Health department’s failure to appoint a new doctor at Mawthawpdah Primary Health Centre (PHC) to replace Dr. Bakor Nongrum, who was transferred five months ago.
On Friday, a delegation from the HYC Mawthawpdah Area Unit, led by its president Boniface Shangpliang, met with the District Medical & Health Officer (DMHO) of South West Khasi Hills, Dr FR Lartang, to demand the immediate appointment of a replacement. The DM&HO assured them that the matter would be taken up seriously.
“We expected the government to appoint another doctor within a month, but to our disappointment, more than five months have passed, and nothing has been done. On several occasions, patients have had to return home without receiving medical attention because there was no doctor available at the hospital,” HYC said.
It further stated that Dr Nongrum was appointed at Mawthawpdah PHC on July 26, 2024, after the council met Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on June 13, 2024. However, she was transferred to Civil Hospital, Shillong, on October 30, 2024.
