SHILLONG, March 30: Troops of Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, on Saturday apprehended a Bangladeshi national attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory through the East Jaintia Hills border.
According to a statement here, the intruder, identified as Shamsuddin, a resident of Sonatan Punji village in Sylhet district, was intercepted by troops of 172 Bn BSF based on specific intelligence inputs.
In a separate operation the same day, troops of 110 Bn BSF foiled a cattle-smuggling attempt along the international border in East Khasi Hills district.
Four Indian nationals were apprehended, and three vehicles carrying 13 cattle—intended for smuggling into Bangladesh—were seized.
Upon questioning, the individuals failed to provide valid justification for the possession of the cattle.
The apprehended individuals, along with the seized cattle, vehicles and the Bangladeshi national, were handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings.
