SHILLONG, March 30: In a solemn and spiritually uplifting ceremony, Father Bernard Laloo was ordained as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Shillong on Sunday at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians.
The Episcopal Ordination was led by Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, alongside Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh, in the presence of several dignitaries, clergy members and a large gathering of the faithful.
Bishop Laloo’s appointment by Pope Francis was officially announced on February 8, 2025, marking a significant moment for the Archdiocese of Shillong.
A highly accomplished scholar, Bishop Laloo holds a bachelor’s degree in education, a Master of Arts in Sociology and Post Graduate Diplomas in Counselling Psychology. His academic and pastoral experience equip him well for his new role.
The ordination ceremony witnessed an impressive turnout, including Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Reflecting on the occasion, the chief minister took to social media and said, “Blessed to be among the faithful as we witnessed the episcopal ordination of Rt. Rev. Bernard Laloo, Auxiliary Bishop of the Shillong Archdiocese, on Sunday.”
Conrad further added, “The ceremony was graced by the presence of Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh of the Shillong Archdiocese, along with several Archbishops, Bishops, and other clergy. It was a solemn occasion of faith and unity. We wish the Auxiliary Bishop the very best as he embarks on his journey of pastoral care.”
