SHILLONG, March 31: The Jaintia Students’ Movement (JSM), Western Region, has urged Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma to establish a CUET exam centre in Jowai to accommodate students from the Jaintia Hills region.
The organisation recently submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister through the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner.
In the memorandum, the JSM appreciated the state government for successfully conducting the CUET (UG) and NEET entrance exams in 2024, with exam centres in Shillong, Tura and Jowai. However, they pointed out that this year’s application form does not offer Jowai as an exam centre option.
According to the organisation, this has caused significant inconvenience for students from Jaintia Hills, who now have to travel long distances to Shillong to appear for the exams.
They urged the state government to request the National Testing Agency (NTA) to ensure that students from Jaintia Hills are allocated exam centres in Jowai.
The JSM stated that setting up a centre in Jowai would be particularly beneficial for students from rural areas and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
