MAWKYRWAT, April 2: Ranikor MLA, Pius Marwein, on Wednesday said the education sector has always been his top priority as an MLA as he highlighted significant improvements in school infrastructure over the past few years in his constituency.
Marwein was speaking at a programme to mark the inauguration of two newly constructed school buildings—Mawjai Govt. Lower Primary School in Mawjai village under Mawkyrwat Block and Nongmluh Govt. Lower Primary School in Nongmluh village under Ranikor Block, South West Khasi Hills district.
The schools were built at a total cost of Rs 44.79 lakh each under the Infrastructure Upgradation Project Phase-II, funded by the State Scheme of the Meghalaya government.
addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Marwein lauded the MDA government, under Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, for its commitment to improving the education sector.
He acknowledged the state’s efforts in upgrading and repairing government schools, ensuring better infrastructure and trained teachers.
“Now you can see lots of changes in the education department. It was totally different when compared with the past few years in terms of infrastructure for school buildings as well as appointment of the trained teachers. We don’t again want to hear complaints from the general public that the state government did not do anything for the schools. We will continue to work for the betterment of the young students who are the future of our state and our country,” Marwein said.
He then reiterated his commitment to enhancing education in Ranikor constituency and expressed satisfaction with the progress made in recent years.
Others who spoke at the event included DG Nongsiej, District School Education Officer & Sub-Divisional School Education Officer of South West Khasi Hills, GG Bung Snaitang, Deputy Chairman of the Meghalaya State Planning Board, and Kynsai Thongni, Junior Engineer of the Education Department, South West Khasi Hills.
