JOWAI, April 2: The Jaintia National Council Employment Commission (JNC-EC) recently conducted inspections of labour practices and licenses for immigrant workers in cement factories located in East Jaiñtia Hills, only to discover that a significant number of workers lacked proper licenses.
Following the inspections, JNC-EC chairman Ency Shadap and secretary Mebanteilang Sukhlaiñ led an operation to chase away unlicensed workers and issued a strict warning to factory management against hiring non-local labourers when local residents are available for such jobs.
In a statement, JNC-EC general secretary Wanshwa Suting asserted that the Commission will extend its inspections to other factories in the region.
He reiterated that one of the primary objectives of the Save Jaiñtia Mission is to push the state government to introduce policies prioritising local employment, particularly in the industrial sector of Jaiñtia Hills.
It may be mentioned that the JNC-EC, a part of the Save Jaiñtia Mission, was established on December 14, 2024, with the goal of safeguarding the interests and welfare of the Jaiñtia community.
