U-16 Benjamin Diengdoh cricket tourney begins in Sohra

Sohra, April 11: The East Khasi Hills Cricket Association kicked off the (L) Benjamin Diengdoh Memorial Under-16 Boys Inter School cum Cluster Cricket Tournament 2025 today at the Pynshadkhurai Ground, Saitsohpen, Sohra.
The opening day featured two exciting matches, showcasing promising young talent from across the region.
In the first match of the tournament, Sohra Cluster (A) faced Sohra Cluster (B). After winning the toss, Sohra Cluster (A) opted to bowl first and successfully restricted their opponents to 43/7 in 15 overs. Arky Iangjuh top-scored for Cluster (B) with 12 runs off 22 balls, while Henzil Kharpuri starred with the ball, taking an impressive 3 wickets for just 2 runs in his two overs.
In reply, Sohra Cluster (A) chased down the target in just 6 overs, scoring 44/5. Samborlang Lyngdoh chipped in with a quick 5 off 3 balls, while Guiding Sohkhlet picked up 2 wickets for 13 runs in his spell. Sohra Cluster (A) won the match by 5 wickets, with Henzil Kharpuri named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
The second match of the day saw Pongtung Cluster take on Mawsynram Cluster. Pongtung won the toss and chose to field first. Mawsynram posted a total of 76/7 in their allotted 15 overs, with Mekhraw Pathaw scoring 19 runs off 32 balls. Jebenti Lyngdoh was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 17 runs in his 3-over spell.In a close contest, Pongtung Cluster managed to chase down the target in exactly 15 overs, finishing at 77/7. Mewanshailang Khongmawlong top-scored with 26 off 35 deliveries, while Pynkhraw Jomati impressed with figures of 4/15 in 3 overs for Mawsynram. Despite the bowling efforts, Pongtung secured a 3-wicket win, with Jebenti Lyngdoh being awarded Player of the Match.
