SHILLONG, April 14: Meghalaya has bagged two prestigious awards from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) at the Aadhaar Samvaad event held at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre, New Delhi recently.
Meghalaya was recognised in two categories — Best Performing State in carrying out mandatory biometric updates of children, and Best Performing State in verification of adult Aadhaar enrolment.
These awards are a testament to the state’s exemplary performance in strengthening Aadhaar-related services and ensuring comprehensive and accurate enrolment for both children and adults across Meghalaya, a communication in this regard said.
The awards were received on behalf of the state by Shai Kupar War, Nodal Officer (Aadhaar), General Administration Department (GAD).
Commissioner & Secretary, Dr Joram Beda who is also the State Nodal Officer for Aadhaar, expressed his satisfaction and appreciation for the twin achievements.
“These recognitions reflect the unwavering commitment and dedication of our Aadhaar team from field-level staff to district officials and technical staff. I congratulate everyone who contributed to this outstanding performance,” he said.
It may be noted that anti-Aadhaar protesters recently held a public rally near the U Kiang Nangbah statue opposite Shillong Civil Hospital to oppose the government’s decision to push for mandatory Aadhaar-linking to access various benefits.
Later, a minor scuffle also ensued between protesters and police personnel, drawing criticisms.
