SHILLONG, April 17: A total of 29 Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) trainee teachers approached the Commissioner and Secretary of the Education department, Vijay Kumar Mantri, on Thursday, seeking his intervention regarding the non-declaration of their internal assessment marks.
These teachers had enrolled for the two-year D.El.Ed programme conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) at the study centre of the Sibsagar Memorial Government Higher Secondary School in Nongstoin.
One of the trainees, Shembor Langrin, told reporters after they met with Mantri that their internal marks were not updated after they completed the programme, preventing them from receiving their final results.
“All 29 of us are in-service teachers directed by the department to undertake the D.El.Ed programme for the 2015-2017 session,” he said.
Langrin said they had reported to the designated study centre, completed the first year of training, and received their mark sheets without any issue.
However, complications arose in the second year, which was delayed and eventually extended to cover the period from 2016 to 2018.
“We finally completed the second year in June 2019, but when the results were released, our internal marks — specifically the Tutor Marked Assignments — were missing. This was deeply frustrating, as the D.El.Ed certificate is mandatory for teachers, and the absence of marks could affect our employment status,” he said.
Langrin emphasised that the delay and omission were not due to their fault. “We followed all instructions provided to us by the authorities, but seven years later, we are still waiting for our results to be updated,” he said.
He, however, said Mantri assured them that their concerns would be looked into and addressed.
