SHILLONG, April 22: The Shillong Traffic Police (STP), in collaboration with the District Medical and Health Services, organised a free medical camp at Khyndai Lad on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Superintendent of Police (Traffic), East Khasi Hills, Kamakhya Prasad, said the camp was primarily aimed at traffic personnel and local as well as tourist taxi drivers, who are frequently exposed to noise pollution and other occupational health hazards.
He stressed the importance of regular health check-ups for both traffic police and drivers, given the stressful nature of their duties. Prasad also shared that although the camp had been planned earlier, it had to be postponed due to other pressing commitments.
Additional District Medical and Health Officer, Dr JK Sangma, underscored the importance of the initiative, calling it much-needed. She also highlighted the state’s goal of eliminating tuberculosis (TB) by 2025.
A team of medical professionals — including general practitioners, ENT specialists, and ophthalmologists — conducted free check-ups for traffic personnel and drivers.
