TURA, April 28: The ICFAI University, Tura Campus, recently conducted a career counselling programme at St. Dominic Savio Higher Secondary School, Garobadha, for students who appeared in the HSSLC Board Examinations 2025.
During the programme, Abijit Sarkar, Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Communication Studies, highlighted the growing importance of Humanities and Social Sciences in today’s dynamic world.
He informed that gathering how fields like these nurture critical thinking, creativity, communication, ethical reasoning and leadership—essential skills valued across sectors such as education, civil services, media, technology and social development.
He then discussed how the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 promotes multidisciplinary learning, encouraging students to follow their passions across different streams.
On the other hand, Sudam Chetry, Assistant Professor of IT, spoke about the booming career opportunities in Information Technology, particularly in areas like Artificial Intelligence, coding and design, preparing students for the demands of the digital age.
Similarly, Chompaboti Hajong, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, enlightened students on career prospects in Management, Commerce and Tourism.
She stressed the growing importance of soft skills, business analytics and internships, and pointed out that management and tourism graduates are also eligible for government jobs and competitive examinations.
She also spoke about emerging avenues such as careers in cruises, airlines and the hospitality industry.
Hajong then conducted an interactive, fun-based game to help students discover their field of interest and career inclination.
Meanwhile, Muktadul Hussain, Senior Administrative Officer, introduced the students to various programmes offered by ICFAI University Meghalaya.
Hussain encouraged the students to make informed academic and career decisions, elaborating on undergraduate and postgraduate courses available across Management, IT, Humanities, and Tourism disciplines.
