MAWKYRWAT, April 29: Over 30 houses were damaged across various parts of South West Khasi Hills after strong winds accompanied by heavy rain lashed the region over the past two days.
According to official sources, on April 28 at around 3 am, strong winds and heavy rainfall struck several parts of the district, damaging six houses in Golsora village under Ranikor Block, four in Umsaw, two in Diwian, one each in Photjaud, Pynden Sakwang, and Nongkenbah villages under Mawkyrwat Block. A day earlier, on April 27, as many as 10 houses were damaged in Nongkdait village, 15 in Puksora village, and three in Ranikor village due to similar weather conditions.
Officials from both Mawkyrwat and Ranikor Block are still assessing the full extent of the damage. However, poor network connectivity in some areas has hindered timely reporting, and the total number of affected houses may rise.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported so far. Temporary arrangements have been made by the villagers to shelter the affected families.
