SHILLONG, April 30: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has decided to study the various corruption charges against the NPP-led MDA government and take them to the people.
AICC joint secretary in-charge of Meghalaya Mathew Antony told reporters here on Wednesday that a meeting of the MPCC’s Political Executive Committee (PEC) held on Tuesday discussed the corruption charges against the government. He alleged that anything and everything in the government is up for sale.
He blamed corruption in the government for the rising cost of living affecting the common people. He cited alleged scams in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission and MGNREGA.
Claiming that everything is going out of control, the Congress leader said Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma cannot exercise any control over his administration because the Chief Minister’s Office is allegedly behind all major cases of corruption.
“Hence, you know, the lower-level corruption cannot be even addressed. This is a matter of concern which was raised by the Congress workers during the PEC meeting. We have resolved to study the corruption charges,” Antony said. He also said that the Congress will take up the corruption issue with the people of the state in their interest.
Resolution passed on Pahalgam terror attack
During Tuesday’s meeting, the PEC passed a resolution on the terror attack in Pahalgam.
Antony said the Congress unanimously approved the AICC resolution to support the central government on the matter of actions against those responsible.
The Congress also resolved to condole the death of the Roman Catholic Pope, Pope Francis. Antony said an MPCC delegation, led by party leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh, met Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese Victor Lyngdoh and handed over a copy of the resolution to him.
Meanwhile, he said the Congress leaders also discussed at length the BJP’s attempt to tarnish the integrity and reputation of the grand old party and the Gandhi family through the National Herald and Associated Journals Limited case.
The AICC leader alleged the BJP-led NDA government used the Enforcement Directorate to fabricate a non-existent case in order to tarnish the image of the Gandhi family and the Congress which has been fighting for the country since its independence.
“They feel insecure about remaining in power because they are aware of the presence of the Gandhi family and Congress in every single soul, in Meghalaya and in the country,” he claimed.
