Indian boxers add 4 more gold medals, finish second overall
AMMAN, May 1: Indian boxers wrapped up their campaign at the inaugural Asian U-15 & U-17 Championships in style, adding four gold medals on the final day to finish second overall.India’s tally included 15 gold, 6 silver, and 22 bronze medals, placing them behind table-toppers Kazakhstan and second-placed Uzbekistan.The final day of the tournament saw the Indian U-17 contingent bag four more gold medals — all from the girls’ division.Khushi Chand (46kg) edged past Mongolia’s Altanzul Altangadas in a hard-fought 3:2 win, while Ahaana Sharma (50 kg) and Jannat (54kg) delivered dominant 5:0 victories over opponents from Uzbekistan.The final gold came through Anshika (80+kg), who ended her bout against Jordan’s Jana Alalawneh with a first-round RSC to seal India’s 15th title of the championships.In the boys’ U-17 section, Devansh (80kg) settled for silver after a 0:5 loss to Kazakhstan’s Mukhamedali Rustembek.The Indian U-17 boy’s team concluded the tournament with one silver and six bronze medals.Simranjeet Kaur (60kg) and Harsika (63kg) added two more silvers to the tally, as the Indian U-17 girls finished with four gold, two silver, and five bronze medals. Indian lifters fetch 2 bronze medals at Youth and Junior World C’ships
LIMA,May 1: India began its campaign at the IWF Youth and Junior World Weightlifting Championships with two bronze medals here.Jyoshna Sabar secured a bronze in the youth girls’ 40kg category with a total lift of 129kg (56kg+72kg). She also clinched a silver in the clean and jerk segment on Wednesday.In the youth boys’ 49kg category, Harsabardhan Sahu lifted a total of 197kg (87kg+ 110kg) to finish third overall and earn a bronze medal. He added another bronze for his clean and jerk performance.At World Championships, medals are awarded separately for snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift, unlike the Olympic Games. (PTI)

Sitwala, Haria record identical 4-0 wins in CCI Billiards Classic
MUMBAI, May 1: Asian billiards champion Dhruv Sitwala and Dhvaj Haria on Thursday recorded identical 4-0 wins in their respective matches of the CCI Billiards Classic tournament here.Sitwala had breaks of 74 in the first and 87 in the second frame and signed off with a break of 110 in the fourth to complete his victory.Haria defeated Arun Agarwal 4-0 as he rolled in a break of 150 to win the opening frame in the 150-up format, a best-of-seven frames contest.In the second frame, Haria had breaks of 66 and 85 and followed it up with 138 in the third. He closed out the match with a break of 64. Agrawal hardly had a chance to get into the match.Siddarth Parikh was also on song as he outclassed Rovin D’Souza to charge to a 4-0 victory.Parikh had multiple breaks 98 (first frame), 74 (second frame), 97 (third frame) and 149 (in the fourth frame) en route to his victory. Pherwani bounces back to beat Ootam in NSCI Snooker
MUMBAI, May 1: Sparsh Pherwani bounced back to defeat veteran Nikhil Ootam 4-3 in a thrilling group match of the NSCI Baulkline Snooker Tournament here on Thursday.Trailing 1-3 in the game which was set to seven frames, Pherwani bounced back in the last three frames to defeat Ootam 5-77, 52 -57, . 69 -42, 29-72, 79-4, 65-12, 62-11.Goud Aravind, meanwhile, recorded wins in fifth and sixth frames to seal a 4-2 (85-58, 33-51, 61-47, 25-66, 63-48, 63-41) against Shokeen Khan while Rishabh Panchamia beat Amanullah Shaikh 4-2 (62-22, 16-55, 73-39, 11-47, 75-24, 68-29).Pinak Anap was dominant against Nikhil Bhansali, winning 4-0 (62-26, 70-46, 56-35,130-4).
