City programme celebrates Tagore’s 164th birth anniv

SHILLONG, May 10: Commemorating the 164th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the Meghandini Mahila Samiti, in collaboration with the Directorate of Art & Culture, Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Nehru Yuva Kendra Shillong, and YESS!! Meghalaya, organised a vibrant series of cultural programmes and competitions on Friday at Pynthorumkhrah LP School, Shillong.
According to a statement, the the event honoured the enduring legacy of Tagore a range of engaging activities, including solo dance performances set to Tagore songs, Rabindra Sangeet renditions and multilingual recitation competitions in English, Bengali and Hindi.
A portrait-making competition dedicated to Tagore also added a creative touch to the celebration.
Winners of the competitions were felicitated with mementos and medals during a prize distribution ceremony that concluded the day’s festivities.
