TURA, May 12: A formal request has been submitted to the Chief Executive Officer of Tura Municipal Board by Amanche Ch. Marak, on behalf of her mother, Enilla Ch. Marak, Nokma of Danakgre A.king, seeking immediate cessation of all municipal activities on the premises of Najing Bazar, located at Danakgre, Hill Mauza No. II–16, New Tura.
In a letter dated May 9, 2025, Amanche Ch. Marak stated that Najing Bazar is situated on private land that legally belongs to Danakgre A.king and is no longer under the jurisdiction of the Tura Municipal Board.
She claims that the GHADC revoked the patta of the said land following a court ruling in favor of her mother, thereby reaffirming the family’s rightful ownership of approximately 16 bighas of land.
Marak urged the municipal board to take immediate action on three key issues, halting all toll collection by lessees allegedly appointed by the board, stopping further room allocations at the market, and complying with legal directives set by the High Court to avoid what she describes as “land grabbing.”
She further emphasized that any unauthorized activities or occupation of Najing Bazar are in direct violation of the rights protected under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which safeguards the interests of indigenous landowners. The letter also warned that legal action will be pursued if the board fails to acknowledge and act upon the request.
Marak concluded by asserting that any representation or decision regarding Danakgre A.king must be verified through her, as she has been officially authorized to act on behalf of the Nokma.
