City college ends vibrant college week celebration

SHILLONG, May 12: Sankardev College celebrated the grand finale of its College Week, marking the conclusion of a vibrant two-week-long celebration of sports, literary, alumni, and extra-curricular activities.
The event, held on Saturday, was graced by Nongkrem MLA and VPP legislator, Ardent M. Basaiawmoit, as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Basaiawmoit lauded the institution’s leadership and its efforts in raising the standard and quality of education, positioning Sankardev College as one of the best in the state. He urged students to remain focused, work hard, and maintain discipline in their academic pursuits.
In her welcome address, the Principal, Dr Eureka FP Lyngdoh, highlighted the immense talent and potential exhibited by students during the College Week.
The chief guest also felicitated two distinguished alumni of the college: Wansalan Dkhar, a 2nd Dan Black Belt and the first female referee from Meghalaya to officiate at the National Games 2025 in Taekwondo (held in Uttarakhand); and Gabriel Madur, who is applying practical science and indigenous knowledge to create innovations.
Research publications from the Departments of Chemistry and English were also released, along with the latest edition of Academia, the College Magazine.
Medals and certificates were awarded to students who excelled in various events. The programme also featured a musical performance by faculty members Dr P Syiemiong and A Rumnong.
A major highlight of the evening was a cultural programme, showcasing the talents of students from 25 different tribes of the North East currently studying at Sankardev College.
