SHILLONG, May 24: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Khasi Hills, has recommended the Sordars (village heads) of Eastern West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills districts to mobilise farmers in their respective areas for the smooth implementation of the Centre’s upcoming nationwide campaign, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, during the pre-Kharif season.
In a meeting held at KVK, Nongshillong, village leaders were briefed about the objectives of the campaign and the role they could play in ensuring its success. Presentations were delivered by Dr EK Marbaniang, Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension), and VJ Lyngdoh, Senior Scientist & Head at KVK, highlighting both the mission of the KVK and the goals of the national initiative.
Scheduled from May 29 to June 12, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
The campaign aims to create awareness among 1 to 1.5 crore farmers across 700 districts on modern agricultural practices, technological interventions and key government schemes relevant to the Kharif season.
In Eastern West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills alone, the Abhiyan will be carried out in 108 villages by nine teams comprising scientists from ICAR Institutes, the Central Agricultural University, KVKs, as well as officials from the Departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, and Fisheries.
The teams will also include Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) members and progressive farmers, who will help amplify the message within their communities.
Each team is expected to conduct three awareness campaigns daily per district, focusing on innovations in Kharif cropping and essential government policies intended to benefit farmers.
