Meritorious student from Ri-Bhoi feted

NONGPOH, May 24: The Dorbar Shnong of Nongthymmai village in Raid Madan Kyrdem, Ri-Bhoi, on Saturday felicitated Evanshan Nongrum, a local student who secured the second position in the top-20 merit list of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination, conducted by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) last month.
Evanshan, a student of Sacred Heart Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong, scored an impressive 578 marks and secured distinctions in English, Mathematics, Social Science, Health & Physical Education and Khasi. He is the son of Wallking Lamare and Rose Mary Nongrum of Nongthymmai village.
In a ceremony, village leaders hailed Evanshan’s success as a moment of honour not just for his family but for the entire community. They expressed hope that his achievement would motivate other students in Nongthymmai and neighbouring areas to pursue academic excellence with similar dedication.
The event was attended by senior Ri-Bhoi journalist Cornelius Laloo as the chief guest, along with village headman Pherlus Mawroh, Seng Longkmie president Jerissina Muktieh, church elders Tbn. H Kharshain and Tbn. H Kharsohnoh, community leader Rishan Nongpluh, and local residents.
