Shillong, June 8: The Meghalaya Football Association today revealed the 13 teams that will participate in its inaugural Meghalaya Women’s State League, which will be held from August 2025.
Anticipation is high for the first ever statewide women’s league that will bring together the top teams from district associations affiliated to the MFA. It has been a goal of the state body to hold a women’s league and the dream will become a reality in a couple of months time thanks to the support of the Meghalaya government. The MWSL will also open up the way for Meghalaya clubs to participate in the Indian Women’s League second division (IWL 2) for the first time.
The model for the MWSL is based on the highly successful Meghalaya State League, a tournament for men’s clubs, which is also supported by the state government. Those affiliated district associations that held local women’s leagues were eligible to put forth the champions and runners-up of their respective tournament.

Eight district associations held such women’s leagues and 13 teams have confirmed their participation in this pathbreaking all-Meghalaya event. A meeting of club representatives and senior members of the MFA was held on Saturday in Shillong to discuss various pertinent matters regarding the MWSL.
The venues, exact start date, groupings and other details will be revealed by the MFA later but the players and teams will all be earnestly preparing for this historic league, which will decide the Champions of Meghalaya!
The participating teams are
Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association – Na Rympei Football Academy (Champions), Pahamsyiem SC (Runners-up)
Shillong Sports Association – Laitkor SC (Champions), Pay For Right Football Academy (Runners-up)
