SHILLONG, June 15: The Meghalaya Police aims to complete the recruitment process for nearly 3,000 vacant posts within the next three months.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the Central Recruitment Board (CRB), Dalton P Marak, said the evaluation of written exam papers is currently under way and will require some time.
“We aim to complete the entire recruitment process — including paper correction, personal interviews, and declaration of final results — within three months,” he stated.
Marak expressed confidence in meeting the deadline, barring any unforeseen hurdles.
Addressing allegations of malpractice raised by some candidates, Marak informed that an inquiry is being conducted by DIG (Eastern Range) Davis NR Marak.
“We are awaiting the inquiry report. So far, the complainants have failed to provide any concrete evidence. Many of the claims are based on hearsay rather than personal experience,” he said, adding that some complainants have even withdrawn their submissions.
He confirmed that disciplinary action has already been taken against a few candidates caught using mobile phones during the examination, but no substantial evidence of large-scale malpractice has emerged so far.
Marak also informed that approximately 56,000 candidates had qualified for the written examination, which was conducted for 2,968 vacancies as per the initial advertisement.
With more than 500 additional vacancies arising since then, he said a fresh recruitment drive could be launched later this year, provided the current process is completed on time.
Responding to the Leader of Opposition’s call for a re-examination, Marak echoed Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong’s concerns, stating that such a move would significantly delay the recruitment process and entail considerable financial implications.
Earlier, Tynsong had ruled out the possibility of re-conducting the examination, questioning why candidates failed to report instances of malpractice during the exam itself.
