Sohra, June 16: The first preparatory meeting for the 4th edition of the Sohra International Half Marathon 2025 was held on Monday at the Sub-Divisional Officer’s office in Sohra, marking the beginning of formal arrangements for the much-anticipated sporting event scheduled to take place on September 27, 2025.
The meeting was chaired by SDO (Civil) Sohra, Mark A. Challam, MCS, and saw the participation of key stakeholders from various departments and local bodies. Among those present were Paia Nongbri, Assistant Director of Sports, Pynhun Syiem, SDPO, Kong Allya, MCS, and officers from departments including Education, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Tourism, Public Works Department (PWD), and Health. Also in attendance were traditional leaders such as the Sordars, Sirder, Rangbah Shnong, and representatives from several Dorbar Shnongs.The Sohra International Half Marathon is being jointly organised by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), the Meghalaya Athletics Association (MAA), and the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya. The event has gained recognition as a premier distance-running competition in the state and draws both national and international athletes to the scenic hill town of Sohra.Discussions during the meeting focused on logistical planning, inter-departmental coordination, and community participation to ensure the successful conduct of the marathon. With over three months remaining, organisers are aiming to make the fourth edition bigger and better, further cementing Sohra’s reputation as a key destination for adventure and sports tourism.
