Missing man’s brother rues police’s ‘complete silence’

NONGPOH, June 20: Nine days since the unexplained disappearance of Carlus Tron from Ummar village in Ri-Bhoi district, the family and locals remain gripped by anguish and uncertainty as search efforts continue to yield no results.
Carlus, affectionately known as Jack, was last seen on the evening of June 11 under mysterious circumstances.
According to relatives, he had accompanied his wife to Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong earlier that day. On the return journey, he was travelling with his mother-in-law and two other villagers when he reportedly asked the driver to stop the vehicle along National Highway 6 near Umran to relieve himself. He stepped out just before 8 pm and was never seen again. His mobile phone has remained switched off since.
The matter was reported to Umsning Police Station the same night.
However, Carlus’s brother, Andrias Tron, said the police have provided no updates since the missing person report was filed. He added that all search efforts have been carried out solely by the villagers without any assistance or coordination from the police.
Speaking to the media persons on Friday, Andrias expressed deep frustration over what he described as the police’s “complete silence”.
The prolonged lack of support has taken a heavy toll on the community, both financially and emotionally. With most villagers struggling economically, the family has now been forced to suspend the search altogether.
“We are disheartened,” said Andrias, adding, “There’s been no progress, no direction. The entire burden of the search fell on the clan and villagers alone. Our only hope now is that the government will intervene and take serious steps to locate him.”
Despite calling off the active search, the family continues to hold out hope.
Meanwhile, Andrias has issued an emotional appeal to the public, urging anyone with information about Carlus Tron’s whereabouts to come forward and contact the family at +918131945570.
