Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras are the real saviour of modern society. You might think they’re just creepy little eyeballs on walls, silently judging your questionable life choices, but these gadgets are out here saving the day, one video at a time. In today’s world, CCTVs are as necessary as Wi-Fi or social media accounts. And for Shillong, the need for CCTVs has never been felt more than now.
Humans are walking proof that evolution is a work in progress. Without CCTVs, we’d miss out on the glorious spectacle of people attempting to take the law into their own hands. In a world where everyone’s glued to their smartphones, CCTVs are the only ones paying attention. They are loyal and non-judgmental—which is a vanishing trait in this era.
So, the next time you see one of those blinking red lights, give it a little salute. After all, prevention is better than cure.

The pine trees seem taller, their needles glistening in the rain-soaked air and the breeze travels with a sprinkle of mist — Shillong is currently cloaked in deeper, richer hues of green.
This is what the rains do to this city — they take what is already enchanting and make it even more magical.
Several majestic places nonchalantly lie in wonted alleys and roads of Shillong.
Take, for instance, the short stretch of road leading to Laitumkhrah via Goraline. Much of the magic unfolds on one side, where tree branches lean over the path. Depending on the season, Jacaranda and Cherry Blossoms transform this avenue into a living painting.
From a quiet vantage in Lachumiere, the Malki forest is now a vibrant sea of green. Pan your view a little further, and you’ll see — Shillong is greener than ever.
Albeit the rains may undo the hard work of blacktopping roads and expose the many frailties in our infrastructure. But they also give our city a renewed visual charm that’s hard to resist.
