SHILLONG, July 4: The North Eastern Council (NEC) released a total of Rs 9.14 crore to the Meghalaya government last month to support various developmental sectors.
In a statement, the NEC said the funds were allocated for projects related to road connectivity, tourism infrastructure, cultural infrastructure, and the development of deprived areas. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to the timely disbursement of funds to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of development projects in the state.
Among the projects supported, Rs 3.21 crore was sanctioned for the construction of an RCC G+4 commercial building at Iewdakm Laban Municipal Market, Shillong, to facilitate the sale of agricultural, horticultural, handicraft, piggery, and floriculture products. Another Rs 1.2 crore was allotted for the construction of tourism infrastructure at Laitlyngkot (Lamlyer) in East Khasi Hills.
The NEC also released Rs 1.24 crore for the development of deprived areas
and marginalised sections of society by promoting literacy through the upgrading of selected Ramakrishna Mission schools in Umploh and Mawkynrew. In a similar initiative, Rs 1.47 crore was sanctioned for the upgrade of schools in Jalaphet and Laitlyngkot, while Rs 1.07 crore was released for schools in Laitlyndop and Mylliem. Additionally, Rs 73.04 lakh was provided for the Ramakrishna Mission School in Mawsmai, Sohra.
A separate amount of Rs 9.14 crore was released for the construction of cultural infrastructure for six Sein Raij institutions in East and West Jaintia Hills districts.
In addition to these allocations, the NEC also released Rs 8.88 crore under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) for the construction of the Pynursla–Latangriwan–Mawlynnong road.
