SHILLONG, July 5: Cabinet Minister and local MLA Marcuise N Marak on Saturday said that the CM FARM+ aims to double farmers’ income by promoting high-value crop cultivation and increasing productivity through hands-on training and modern agricultural practices.
“This initiative is not just about distributing seeds, it’s about empowering our farmers, expanding cultivation and bringing prosperity to every household. When farmers succeed, the state succeeds,” Marak said during the CM FARM+ programme organised by the District Horticulture Office at Ganingbibra under Samanda C&RD Block.
Underlining the potential of CM FARM+, he said the initiative is empowering farmers with quality planting materials, enabling them to sell their produce for a good income.
This, according to Marak, is contributing to the growth of individual families and the state’s economy.
Asserting that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has set an ambitious target to transform Meghalaya into a USD 10 billion dollar economy, he said the government’s developmental strategy is holistic that is touching every sector including horticulture, road infrastructure (PWD), water supply (PHE), education, tourism and conservation.
Reminding the gathering of the recent inauguration of the Additional Secretariat in Tura, he said this was done to decentralise governance.
Marak recalled how, in the absence of the Additional Secretariat in Tura, people had to travel all the way to Shillong even for minor works.
The programme was attended by farmers, officials from the Horticulture department and local community members, many of whom expressed optimism about the opportunities brought by CM FARM+.
