Deir al-Balah, July 6: At least 33 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza on Sunday, according to hospital officials, as Israel intensified its military campaign.
Twenty people died and 25 were injured after two homes were hit in Gaza City, while 13 more were killed in the southern coastal area of Muwasi, where many displaced families live. Five of the victims were from the same family. The Israeli military said it struck 130 targets across Gaza in the past 24 hours, including Hamas command centers, weapons depots, and rocket launchers. It claimed several militants were killed but did not comment on the specific strikes.
The escalation coincides with renewed efforts to broker a ceasefire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to travel to Washington for talks with President Donald Trump, who has proposed a 60-day truce. The plan includes a partial hostage release by Hamas in exchange for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, with the goal of paving the way for negotiations to end the 21-month conflict. Israel has agreed to send negotiators to Qatar for indirect talks, though it rejected Hamas’ requested changes as “unacceptable.”
Hamas is demanding guarantees that any temporary truce will lead to a full Israeli withdrawal and a permanent end to the war. (AP)
