SHILLONG, July 6: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum and his family had a narrow escape after their vehicle was hit by a car coming from the opposite direction at the Nehru Park junction in Umiam around 6:45 pm on Sunday.
Nongrum was travelling to Umsning with his wife, children, and mother-in-law when the accident occurred.
When contacted, the North Shillong MLA said that the vehicle bearing registration number (ML05 AB 8537), which was speeding and attempting to overtake, first collided with a Maruti car (ML05 C 6579) before ramming into his vehicle.
According to Nongrum, the driver of the offending vehicle appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
“Fortunately, no one was injured, although all three vehicles sustained significant damage,” he said, adding that his children were left traumatised and were in tears following the crash.
Informing that a case has been registered at Umiam police station, he said that the drivers of all three vehicles are currently undergoing medical examination at Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
