Two citizens drugged, robbed during taxi rides in city

SHILLONG, July 9: A woman was allegedly drugged and robbed by two co-passengers after boarding a local taxi from Motphran to Dhankheti recently. The victim filed an FIR at Lumdiengjri police station, stating that she had boarded a local taxi from Motphran. She lost consciousness during the ride, and when she regained it, she discovered her earrings were missing. The two female co-passengers had disappeared, leaving only the driver in the vehicle.
After she shared her experience on YouTube, another youth shared a similar experience, recalling a local taxi ride from Rynjah to Iewduh on June 2. He claimed that he was seated in the front with a Khasi driver and three other passengers, including a woman who got down at Nongrim Hills. The driver suggested taking the Polo route to avoid traffic congestion, and the backseat passengers offered him a cigarette. After passing the MES area, he suddenly fell unconscious and found himself at Mawlynrei.
The youth said he had planned to travel to Jaintia Hills on May 3 for his daughter’s first birthday but ended up at his elder sister’s house in Mawlynrei.
He stated that he had Rs 18,000 in his possession which went missing. The youth said he did not file a police complaint since he felt the incident was his misfortune. He said he decided to speak out after hearing the woman’s story to urge people to be cautious of others who may drug and rob them.
A senior police official confirmed that a case has been registered at Laitumkhrah police station concerning the woman’s complaint. The case was transferred to Laitumkhrah PS from Lumdiengjri since the incident occurred within its jurisdiction. The senior police official also urged the youth, who shared his experience, to file an FIR so that the police can formally investigate the matter.
