
Father arrested for raping minor daughter
SHIMLA, July 11: A man was arrested for allegedly raping his 12-year-old daughter at home in Shimla’s Rampur on the mother’s complaint on Friday.The victim’s mother narrated the alleged incident and filed a complaint with the police alleging that her husband raped her minor daughter on July 6.The accused has been booked for rape.The accused has been arrested and further investigations are underway, police added. Four killed as tanker hits car on Mumbai-Agra highway
NASHIK, July 11: Four persons were killed when a tanker hit their car on the Mumbai-Agra national highway in Maharashtra’s Nashik district.The accident took place around 1 pm on Thursday near Mundhegaon Shivar.Three members of a family from Andheri in Mumbai were returning home in a car after attending a Guru Purnima programme.A tanker carrying a chemical substance crashed into the car, killing the trio and their driver at the scene. The tanker overturned due to impact, the official said.The victims have been identified as Nityanand Sawant (62), Vidya Sawant (65), Veena Sawant (68) and car driver Dattaram Ambale (42), also a resident of Andheri in Mumbai. Their bodies were removed with the help of a crane from the mangled wreckage of the car, the official said. (PTI)
Tremors felt in Delhi-NCR
NEW DELHI, July 11: An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 shook parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday evening, according to initial reports.The tremors were felt around 7:49 pm and the epicentre of the earthquake was at Jhajjar in Haryana.This was the second earthquake that hit the National Capital Region (NCR) in two days. An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck near Jhajjar on Thursday morning.Further details are awaited. (PTI)
TMC MLA’s close aide shot dead in Bengal
KOLKATA, July 11: A 38-year-old Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, triggering tension in the locality, police said on Friday.The incident occurred in Bhangar area on Thursday night when Rajjak Khan, a close aide of TMC’s Canning Purba MLA Saokat Molla, was shot at by a few gunmen.No one has so far been arrested in the killing of the TMC functionary.The incident took place when Khan, the TMC’s Chaltaberia unit president, was returning home after attending a party meeting there, the officer said.Three bullets hit the deceased. The assailants also stabbed him multiple times to ensure his death.Molla blamed the Indian Secular Front (ISF) for the murder. (PTI)
