SHILLONG, July 12: The long-awaited Interstate Boundary Survey between Assam and Meghalaya has officially begun.
A joint initiative by the governments of Assam and Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Survey of India, the survey aims to accurately demarcate the boundary between the two states. The launch follows a coordination meeting held at the Assam, Nagaland & Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram Geospatial Directorate of the Survey of India in Guwahati.
Field survey activities commenced on July 1, 2025, in Hahim, in the presence of government officials and members of the media. Coordinates of pre-established boundary pillars (installed in 2023) were successfully verified, and the construction of new boundary pillars has begun.
On July 2, 2025, a separate team initiated survey work in the Gizang region, employing advanced GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technology to determine precise ground coordinates for future boundary demarcation.
“The active participation of the Assam and Meghalaya state governments, the Survey of India, and the media has ensured transparency, coordination, and smooth progress in this significant step towards resolving the boundary issue,” the Survey of India stated.
