TURA, July 15: The AMMSU on Tuesday, July 15, moved the Additional Chief Engineer of NHA, Tura Division on the deplorable condition of the NH-127 B formerly known as the AMPT Road, from Phulbari to Rajabala.
In its complaint to the official, the union while raising the current deplorable condition of the said road sought its immediate repair to ease the difficulties being faced by commuters.
“This stretch is one of the most crucial roads for the plainbelt region of West Garo Hills district, connecting Phulbari, Rajabala, and several surrounding villages to larger towns such as Tura, Goalpara, Guwahati and others. While the road has now been notified as National Highway 127B, the actual construction is still in its early stages, and currently only land acquisition work is in progress. It is anticipated that the full construction will take considerable time to commence and complete,” it said, while informing that the present condition of the road has become extremely deplorable.
According to the union, the entire stretch is marked by continuous broken patches, deep potholes, eroded shoulders, and poor drainage. It added that during the rainy season, these potholes fill with muddy water, making them invisible to drivers and riders, which in turn make it impossible for commuters to judge their depth, resulting in frequent accidents and vehicles getting stuck in the middle of the road, posing serious risks for all road users.
Pointing out that the situation is affecting all sections of the community including students, general commuters and medical patients especially during emergencies, the union sought the immediate repair and maintenance of the existing stretch from Phulbari to Rajabala until the full construction of the new highway begins.
