SHILLONG, July 16: The Meghalaya House in Bengaluru will be made functional by the end of December, the state government announced on Wednesday.
This announcement comes amid rising concerns from student bodies over the prolonged delay in setting up the state guest house. Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma informed that the Cabinet has already decided to purchase land and a building in Bengaluru, and the process is nearing completion
“All the finances involved have been paid off. Once the furnishing work is completed, the building will be handed over and made functional,” Sangma said. “We have paid, we have possessed the building, and if I’m not wrong, in a matter of two to three months — by November or before December — the Meghalaya House in Bengaluru will start functioning,” he added.
The minister further reiterated that from the government’s side, all formalities have been completed. “The purchase process is done, and very soon, within the next two to three months, the Meghalaya House will be operational. We are working fast to make this happen at the earliest,” he said.
Sangma also stated that the guest house will be especially helpful for students and professionals from Meghalaya who travel to Bengaluru for education, employment, or other purposes.
Just days ago, the KSU Bengaluru Unit reiterated its demand for the speedy establishment of the Meghalaya House in the Karnataka capital to support students and working professionals from the state.
Highlighting the growing challenges faced by the Meghalaya community in Bengaluru, KSU Bengaluru Unit president Donboklang Nongphud had expressed concern over the prolonged delay in setting up the state guest house.
