SHILLONG, July 21: Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister AL Hek on Monday informed that a health check gate for cattle entering Meghalaya is under construction and will be completed soon.
Hek stated that the gate for checking the health status of cattle at Ri Bhoi district is almost complete, while another gate in Garo Hills will take some more time.
Lauding the department, the BSF, and the state government for doing a commendable job in curbing the illegal smuggling of cattle across Meghalaya’s borders, Hek said that the process of handing over the seized cattle, currently kept in BSF camps, will be managed by the respective Deputy Commissioners.
BJP’s revival
Meanwhile, senior BJP MLA Hek has expressed optimism about the party’s revival in Meghalaya.
When asked why the BJP has not increased its tally beyond two MLAs in the state, Hek said it is the people’s choice and their democratic right. “We cannot do anything if people do not elect the BJP,” Hek remarked. However, he added that he believes in the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, quoting: “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.”
